Pythagoras Karampiperis

He is an Electronics & Computer Engineer that holds two MSc degrees, as well as a PhD on Digital Systems. With more than 25 years of expertise in the conception, coordination and realization of R&D projects funded by the European Commission and the US-National Science Foundation, he is frequently working with industry, research and international organizations on ways in which data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies may be used to tackle key challenges of the data value chain. He is often being invited to speak about these topics in business and policy venues.

Pythagoras founded SCiO in 2019 and with his capacity as CEO, he achieved three continuing profitable years with a more than 20% annual increase in revenue. He also secured external funding of more than 2M€ for the company. One of SCiO’s key achievements is their work for the Big Data Platform of CGIAR, a large-scale initiative to unlock important research publications and data sets about food security, nutrition, and natural resources. This work was recently recognized by Elastic Search under the 2020 Cause Awards category. Pythagoras has also led SCiO to the top-5 finalists of the 2020 Syngenta Crop Challenge in Analytics, a prestigious worldwide competition that sought analytical approaches to improve complex crop breeding processes.

In his early career, Pythagoras served as leading researcher for two of the biggest research centres in Greece, namely the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, and the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”. His work has resulted into more than 75 publications in scientific books, journals and conferences with more than 1300 known citations (h-index: 19), as listed in Google Scholar.
